Natural Line of Skin Remedies

We’re here to help your pets feel better, which is why we have rounded up dermatology products to help with your pet’s everyday skin issues. Looking to soften and soothe your pet’s skin? See below for a daily ointment that will soften rough patches. Looking to hydrate and protect or balance and restore? We recommend weekly topical applications, which are explained below!

Introducing DERMOSCENT BIO BALM

Hyperkeratosis. If you’ve ever played Scrabble, this may be a great word to know.  But for Dogs and Dog parents, it refers to the gnarly looking end-of-the-nose of older dogs…or the equally gnarly elbow calluses in larger, older dogs … and some funky-looking hard pads of the feet.Hyperkeratosis simply refers to a thickening of the skin, with the end of the nose, the elbows and the hard pads of the feet being the affected areas of the body.  It is seldom a health issue, but much more of a cosmetic issue in that it may take away from the appearance of your pet.

So what to do about it? Dermoscent BIO BALM was developed just for this purpose. BIO BALM is an organic, water-resistant formula designed to nourish and protect the nose, elbows, and paws. It can also be used for skin abrasions and to soothe irritations between the toes.

For best results, apply daily. Initially, you can apply to affected areas twice daily until changes are seen.

Give it a try, and let us know what kind of results you see with your pets. Even better, take before and after photos so you can see the progress.

* Spoiler Alert: For you Scrabble players out there, the most effective way to win consistently is to aggressively use as many of the allowable 127 2-letter words whenever possible.  😀    You’re welcome.

Introducing DERMOSCENT ESSENTIAL 6 Spot On for DOGS with ALLERGIES

We see an endless stream of dogs with seasonal and environmental allergies, resulting from pollens, dust, molds, mildews, weeds, grass, trees, etc.  The degree of severity ranges from a mild, occasional itch with some dogs to severe, never-ending itching, biting, scratching, chewing, rubbing, with oozing sores, and infected and raw and inflamed skin.  Needless to say, these latter dogs are tragically miserable !

While we cannot cure these dogs, there are multiple ways for us to help manage the problems.  I describe in detail in my handouts many different ways to help control and manage your pet’s itching,  it’s especially frustrating when some pets seem to have “unmanageable” allergies.

Today, I want to introduce a new product that, while it won’t help every dog, may help your dog, and give them a better quality of life during their allergy seasons:  Dermoscent Essential 6 Spot-On, a unique blend of 10 essential oils that has proven to give relief from itching in a large number of dogs.

Essential 6 Spot-On is a once-a-week topical liquid/oil that is applied to the back of the neck.    Its most important benefit is to restore the hydration of the skin, which allows the skin to provide a better barrier to keep pollens and allergens out and keep moisture in.   Veterinary dermatologists universally acknowledge and agree how crucial it is to keep the skin moisturized in order to protect the skin and keep the effects of allergies (itching, etc) to a minimum.  Apply the contents of the vial onto 1 or 2 spots on the back of the neck / near the shoulders.  Apply just once a week for 2 months to start, then every 2 weeks thereafter as long as necessary

Additionally, Essential 6 minimizes loss of hair and promotes new hair growth.  It reduces dandruff and flaky skin.  It enhances the shiny-ness of the hair coat.  It adds antioxidant activity to protect the outer layer of skin.  Essential 6 helps to deodorize the pet, which I am confident many of you will appreciate.

It is important that you DO NOT BATHE your pet during the 2 days before you apply it, and the 2 days after you apply it (that is, a 4 day window without a bath, applying the Essential 6 in the middle of the 4 day period).

To be clear, it will not work with every dog.  Several studies have shown that 70-80% of dogs will benefit from its use.  If you feel like you’ve “tried everything”, I assure you, there are several things I recommend on our handouts that you’ve never heard about.  Essential 6 is definitely one product that I truly feel every pet parent with a dog suffering from allergies should try.

Introducing PYOspot for Dogs with Reoccurring Skin Infections

The newest addition to our available products for skin allergies is Dermoscent Essential 6 Spot-On, a topical liquid / oil that is applied once-a-week to assist dogs with their biting, scratching, licking, itching and chewing.

Many of these dogs with skin allergies also develop bacterial infections and/or yeast infections.  And in some cases, these infections may be recurring (they come and go) or continual, chronic issues.  It’s crucial that we get a handle on these skin infections because they can definitely contribute to the intensity of the itching, chewing, etc. that a dog experiences, which then adds to the cycle of misery we so often see.

The same company that makes Dermoscent Essential 6 has also created a product that is formulated to purify the skin of dogs with recurring skin infections:  PYOspot.   PYOspot contains a blend of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids, as well as several essential oils and plant extracts to restore the natural balance of microbes on the skin we well as soothe the skin, and reinforce the skin barrier.

PYOspot is not a stand-alone product, meaning that by itself, it will not magically make bacterial and yeast infections disappear.  But when used together with appropriate medications, it can greatly benefit the skin and lessen the chances of having recurring infections of the skin.

PYOspot is applied once a week as long as necessary to the back of the neck / shoulders in 1 or 2 spots.  It is important not to bathe your dog 2 days prior to applying the liquid or in the 2 days following application. At minimum, I recommend a trial of 2 months to see how it can help your pet.
