Interceptor Plus

Dear Dog Lovers

We’ve already seen a number of mosquitoes even though it hasn’t become too ‘buggy’ yet. It comes as no surprise since mosquitos will usually emerge when the temperatures approach the low to mid-50’s, and we’ve had a tremendous amount of rain over the past 5+ months. Heartworm disease can only be transmitted to dogs by mosquitoes and it can be a deadly disease.

We recently emailed informing our clients that we have introduced ProHeart 6, an injectable heartworm prevention that lasts 6 months. We’ve received a lot of positive interest in ProHeart 6 as it can make it much easier to keep up with heartworm prevention.

We have added another option for a once-a-month heartworm preventionInterceptor Plus. While Interceptor Plus isn’t new on the market, we have had a lot of requests to offer this product. We love the fact that in addition to heartworm prevention, it provides treatment and control against all 4 intestinal worms that we commonly see here in North Carolina: Hookworms, Roundworms, Whipworms and Tapeworms. As long as your dog is taking Interceptor Plus on a monthly basis, you shouldn’t have any concerns with heartworm disease or intestinal worms / parasites. The only other heartworm prevention that we carry, that also treats and controls all 4 intestinal worms, is Sentinel Spectrum.

Interceptor Plus uses real chicken to flavor the tablets, so it’s best that dogs with known allergies to chicken be given a different heartworm prevention.

It’s far better to prevent a heartworm infection rather than discover your dog has the disease. While heartworms can be treated and eliminated, the profound negative effects on the body from the disease can last a lifetime.
